BBC Radio Nottingham pundit Martin Shaw is hoping Mansfield Town can ride the wave of momentum created by the Liverpool FA Cup tie and seal promotion.
Mansfield will take on the Premier League giants in front of a sold out One Call Stadium and the ESPN cameras on 6th January.
The glamour tie has already created huge interest across Mansfield and will give Stags a massive financial windfall and create a wider boom for the town’s economy.
And Shaw, who is a lifelong Stags fan, believes the players will be able to feed off the current buzz and push on up the Blue Square Premier league table.
“It is great that the club are in the national spotlight for all the right reasons,” he said. “It’s been a tough season in many ways because results have not gone how we would want them to.
“I am delighted for everyone at the club, but especially John Radford and Carolyn Still. John has put so much money in to the club and this is the perfect reward for everything he has done.
“Playing Liverpool will be a great game and a game to remember for the fans. I don’t think any fan will be expecting us to beat Liverpool, but there is always a chance, no matter how small.
“If we play to our best and Liverpool are off their game, then who knows. Even if we lose, it is still going to be a great day for the club.
“This is going to create a massive buzz around the club, the anticipation and build up to the game is going to be brilliant.
“This has created a buzz around the town and it feels a lot like the buzz we felt at the club for the second half of last season.
“One thing that I have noticed over the last week or two is that the fans are fully behind the players and that everyone is pulling in the right direction.
“That is a massive contrast when you look back to the boos Paul Cox received after the league game against Lincoln just a few weeks ago.”
And Shaw now hopes that Paul Cox’s side will be able to capitalise fully on their improving form and finally seal a return back to the Football League.
“Players are coming into form. Green is starting to look sharp, Hutchinson is looking good alongside Green and Clements is really coming into his own in midfield as is Howell,” he said.
“The league is still the main focus and getting promotion. We have four very important games before we play Liverpool and that is what it is all about. A cup run like this can only be a good thing.”
Tickets for Mansfield Town’s big FA Cup tie with Liverpool will go on sale to season ticket holders on Friday.
Season ticket holders are being given first priority to buy tickets for the match on Sunday 6th January (kick-off 4pm), which will be all-ticket, with allocated seating.
They will be entitled to one ticket per season ticket card and can purchase them from Friday 14th December at 10am until Sunday 16th December (10am-3pm).
