Delighted boss Paul Cox has praised the attitude of his Mansfield Town players after they made it two wins on the bounce.
Stags rode their luck to defeat Newport County 1-0 last night thanks to Chris Clements’ second minute strike.
It means Mansfield have now won both their home games after they beat Oxford United 2-1 on Saturday,
And Cox was left delighted by the battling spirit shown by his injury hit squad.
“We have not played very well tonight, but we have grinded the result out,” said Cox.
“This was a tough test for us and like one we have not faced this season. It was a tough battle as we knew it was going to be.
“We had good breaks in the first and second half, but we did not take them and close the game out which is disappointing.
“Getting numbers out there is an issue right now with our injury situation and I am really pleased with the attitude of the players right now.
“What is pleasing is that we have got six points in our last two games against two very strong teams.”
Cox has also confirmed that there are no funds available for him to replace the injured Liam Hearn and the recalled Amari’i Bell.
Said Cox: “I have spoken to our chairman and we do not have any money to bring in new faces.
“It is what it is and we just have to make the best of things and soldier on. My players are up for the challenge.
“Our fans have been brilliant, they know what the scenario is and have been right behind us. We need them behind us every step of the way.”
