Lightning did strike twice for Mansfield Town as they were incredibly paired with Premier League giants Liverpool for a second successive year in today’s FA Cup third round draw, this time at Anfield.
It was almost poetic justice for the way they were robbed of an Anfield replay in last year’s controversial 2-1 home defeat by the Merseysiders at the same stage.
However, to secure the Liverpool trip, Paul Cox’s men have still to overcome Oldham Athletic in their second round replay a week on Tuesday.
The Latics were held 1-1 by Mansfield at Boundary Park yesterday but will still be a dangerous animal at One Call Stadium as their first round opponents, Wolves, found out when they thought they had done the hard bit by earning themselves a home replay last month.
The Liverpool game was the third out of the hat and will be played over the weekend of 3rd/4th January when Mansfield are currently scheduled to make the long haul down to Exeter City.
