MANSFIELD TOWN have announced the signing of former Cheltenham Town defender Martin Riley on a one year deal.

The 24-year-old, who started his career as a trainee at Wolverhampton Wanderers, went on to make 85 appearances for Kidderminster Harriers before joining League Two Cheltenham Town, where he made 29 starts last season.

After signing, the 6 ft centre half, who admitted rejecting offers from other BSBP clubs said:  “I wanted to sign for a team with ambition and that is exactly what we seem to have here.  I’ve spoken to Gary Mills (ex Stags) about the move and he was nothing but complimentary about the club.

“I’m aiming to be ‘flying fit’ by the first game of the season. I’ve been training at Cheltenham recently to gain fitness and am looking forward to the pre-season games,” he added.
