Long-serving Mansfield Giants member Sarah Wood, pictured right, has been selected to act as a statistician at this year’s London Olympics and Paralympics after a year long training and selection process.

Nineteen-year-old Sarah began playing for Giants as an U12 player over seven years ago and has since been a solid member of the club as a player, official and volunteer, winning the Club Volunteer of the Year at last year’s awards evening.

She was roped into doing the stats for the Giants’ men three years ago, and has since gained a vast amount of experience volunteering at England Basketball events, even officiating at the World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Birmingham in 2010.

Since then, Sarah has undergone an intense training programme at a number of high profile GB Basketball events, where she has passed the theory and practical sides of the training.

Sarah will join a team of statisticians from both basketball and wheelchair basketball who will use the new Omega touch screen software to produce state of the art statistical breakdowns to all teams at both the Olympics and Paralympics.
