A powerlifting couple are celebrating after both achieved top-three finishes at the world championships recently.

Kelly Burkinshaw and her partner Anthony Spalding both competed at the WPU World Powerlifting Championships which were held in Limerick, Ireland.

The event was host to over 250 of the world’s best powerlifters in various different age and weight categories.

Therefore, the couple, who both train at Festival Hall in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, knew they would be up against it in their pursuit of a medal.

However, that’s exactly what they both did.

First, Kelly secured bronze in the u60kg women’s category, and even broke a world record in the deadlift before it was unfortuantely broken by someone else.

As for Anthony, he also came third and picked up bronze in the men’s open u110kg category.
