MANSFIELD is preparing for a sporting showdown late next year when representatives of all the different sports played in the town will battle it out to become the inaugural Inter-Sport Challenge quiz champions.
The charity event at Mansfield Civic Centre, organised jointly between the Armchair Club and the Chad, will pit footballers up against cricketers, bowlers, martial arts players, hockey players and every other sport on town.
Each sport will get rounds on their own ‘home’ subject plus rounds on other sports to see which of them has the best overall sporting knowledge.
The evening will include a pie and peas supper and the organisers are looking for tables of eight at £20 a head.
Depending on interest shown, teams could be broken down into local leagues or even different styles of martial arts etc.
The quiz will be based on the presentation style of the Armchair Club’s ever-popular annual sports quiz, which has been staged every March for the past 30 years and features a full audio-visual experience on a giant screen.
“The Inter-Sport Challenge is a new idea which will puts different sports against each other, raise money for charity and give the chance to compete for a magnificent trophy on an annual basis,” said the Armchair Club’s Stewart Rickersey.
“We want teams from different sports and they can be mixed or we could have maybe a team from local ladies football or whoever they are flying the flag for.
“We hope all the local football and cricket leagues will take a table and maybe even Mansfield Town. We could have a combined martial arts table or, if the interest was there, separate tables for judo, taekwondo etc.
“It will be a great night, professionally compered, and we hope it will be well supported by the town.”
The Armchair Club is a collective of local businessmen who come together to organise regular fund-raising dinners to benefit local and national sporting causes.

Rebecca Adlington has confirmed she will be attending and invitations are being extended to all who are participating in the Olympics and Paralympics in London along with many other local sportsmen and women whom the Armchair Club have supported over the years.
