Teversal wait to hear about possible change of leagues for next season

Rumours are growing that Teversal might find themselves in a new league next season after the current campaign ended with an undistinguished 1-1 draw at Dronfield Town.

The result left Teversal in 14th place in the 21-team Toolstation Northern Counties East League, First Division table and clear of any involvement at the top or bottom.

But once all the promotion and relegation issues have been sorted out in this league and those it feeds into, they could be handed a sideways move to the East Midlands Counties League in a restructure for the 2016/17 season. This is because, geographically, they are the most southerly side currently in the division.

“It’s a decision to be made by the FA and may still be a few weeks away,” said a club spokesman. “But whatever the outcome, we will be raring to go once again come August.”

The move could mean less travelling for Teversal because the East Midlands Counties League currently houses several other Nottinghamshire-based clubs, including Radford, Kimberley Miners Welfare, Gedling Miners Welfare, Arnold Town and Radcliffe Olympic.

Saturday’s short trip to Dronfield, who sit just below them in the table, yielded typical end-of-season fare. But at least the result went some way towards stopping the rot of their worst run of form this season -- ten matches and just over two months without a win.

Dronfield were in a similarly rocky boat, having won only one in ten, although that was a 9-0 dismantling of Hull United in midweek.

In a goalless first half, chances fell at both ends, with Teversal’s Lewis Weaver seeing a ninth-minute effort ruled out for offside.

Just before the hour, the visitors took the lead when Weaver cut into the area and crossed for Brad Cox to slide in and poke the ball past home ‘keeper Steve North. But only three minutes later, Dronfield were level thanks to a strike by Sam Bebbington.

The game, which was superbly marshalled by referee Sam Wright, then petered out, like so many last-day affairs across the non-league country, and the outcome mirrored that of the first fixture between the two sides at Carnarvon Street back in December.
