And the former Mansfield Town youngster, who took Heanor Town Reserves to promotion in the same league last season, can’t wait to get started.

“We had our first training session last night which saw 26 lads there which was first team and reserves,” he said.

“It was a brilliant first session and has set the tone already for what I’m sure will be a very successful season for both sides.

“Sav (Wayne Savage), the first team manager, has put together a very strong squad with some great new signings and I’m sure they have a real chance of promotion this season.

“I’ve brought a lot of new lads in with a few still to add, but I’m very happy with how the squad’s looking and I’m confident we’ll have a real chance of both winning our league and supplying the first team with players to aid their promotion push.”
He added: “It’s a very good club with massive ambition to move forward both on and off the pitch.

“We’ve just set up an U21s side for next season as well which will hopefully attract young players to the club to progress through to me and then through to the first team.

“There are some great people doing massive work off the pitch to ensure we can be a success on it and I know that the future at Sherwood is a very bright one.”

Rogers played at Mansfield Town, Eastwood Town and Heanor Town until a serious injury interrupted his playing career. Last season, in his first campaign as a manager, he led Heanor Town Reserves to the runners-up position. However, that reserve team was disbanded at the end of the season.

Now at Sherwood, he has appointed Danny Barke as his assistant manager.

Danny played in the same Mansfield Town youth team as Rogers and played for Teversal FC last season and the duo also managed AFC Mansfield’s U18 Sunday team.

Wayne Savage will lead Sherwood Colliery as first team manager for a second season and will be supported by Mick Kerry as assistant and Glenn Tolley as head coach.

Wayne led the club to a creditable fifth place finish in the CML South Division last season along with a semi-final in the Floodlit Cup and a quarter-final in the Notts FA Senior Shield.

Next season the club will compete on three fronts with the advent of their new U21 team, which will compete in the North Midlands U21 Development League.

Dave Carver has been appointed manager and has added Dave Jacks to his staff as assistant manager. Dave will work closely with Savage and Rogers to ensure the young players are allowed to progress.

Club chairman Gareth Bull said “Sherwood Colliery made significant strides last season with top five finishes at both first and reserve team level.

“We are hoping that Wayne, Scott and Dave can take the club forward on the pitch by injecting some youth and progression into the club and we will give them every bit of help we can.

“We are looking forward to the new season with great optimism.”
