After a disappointing opening two league games of the season, a deserved win at Hartlepool on Tuesday night holds Dagenham in good stead ahead of Saturday’s visit of Mansfield, writes Nick Murphy.

Even at this stage of the season, I feel that the win at Hartlepool on Tuesday was massive for us. To get off the mark, especially away from home is crucial, if not deserved following Saturday’s capitulation at Burton after being 1-0 up.

We saw the job through to the end, and with the blend of youth and experience we have in the squad, I’m confident that we’ll be able to kick on starting against the Stags at the weekend.

Over the summer we had a number of incomings and outgoings, but the two signings in particular that have really struck a chord are veteran striker Jamie Cureton, and former Reading defender Matt Partridge.

The pair have come in and done superbly so far, making us more solid at the back and giving us a much needed cutting edge up front.

With Ashley Chambers tucking in behind, and the recent acquisition of targetman Christian Doidge, I feel as though we now have all bases covered.

The home fixture against Mansfield at the weekend however is crucial. We desperately need to arrest a horrific home record in 2014, but against a gritty Town side, we know it won’t be easy.

From what I’ve seen the Stags have added well, and with Sam Clucas up front, are always a danger, especially against our short on height defence. I feel as though it will be an evenly matched contest, but one that with new found confidence, hopefully we can win.
