Never has the saying a game of two halves applied more than at Langwith Road on Saturday as Shirebrook Town ran out 4-1 winners over Yorkshire Amateur.
The visitors started the game the brightest with Siddons being tested a number of times in the home net, but he managed to keep the visitors out until the 23rd minute when, after falling awkwardly on his knee, he was replaced by Dean in the net.
Still Yorkshire Amateur kept trying and when Joel Hughes burst into the box and was brought down by Dean the referee was left with no choice but to point to the spot.
Hughes stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake to put Amateur one up.
Shirebrook did have a chance to level the scores in the final few seconds of the half, but Smith put the header over the bar.
The half-time substitution of Smith for Rowley changed the game with Rowley offering more pace into the team.
With some tactical changes Shirebrook got themselves back into the game in the 56th minute when Mawbey punted the ball into the air and it came back to him, and from 35 yards he smashed a left footed volley into the bottom corner to leave everybody in the ground stunned at what they had just seen.
Shirebrook then took the lead three minutes later when Rowley burst down the right and his pass found Currie on the edge of the box from where he smashed his shot into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead.
Things got worse for Amateur in the 62nd minute when they were reduced to 10 men when Hughes was given a second yellow for a tackle on Sykes, which could have been a red by itself.
He left the referee with no option but to send him off and Shirebrook made the day even better for themselves in the 65th minute when the ball fell to Rawson and his shot found the top corner to all but wrap up the three points.
But Shirebrook did make sure of the points in the 90th minute when sub Thomas found Mawbey who got his second of the game to cap a brilliant second half display from the home side.
Shirebrook are back in action with a trip to Dronfield Town on Saturday (3pm).
