Ollerton's improved home run brought to an end

A run of improved home form came to an end for Ollerton Town after a poor second-half performance against Bradford raiders, Campion, on Saturday.

Ollerton had battered Brigg Town 6-2 and held high-flying Hall Road Rangers and Grimsby Borough to draws in their previous three Toolstation Northern Counties East League, First Division fixtures at Walesby Lane.

But in a battle of two of the league’s promoted new boys, Campion, who are chasing the promotion play-offs, inflicted a 2-0 defeat that left Dave Winter’s side still looking over their shoulders with relegation trepidation.

Even without last season’s top scorer Kyle Ludlow, Ollerton had the best of the early chances, while at the other end, the visitors’ prolific 30-goal striker Eli Hey had to endure a frustrating afternoon.

However, Campion made the breakthrough ten minutes into the second half when, from a corner, the ball fell to Matthew Jones, whose low effort clipped home skipper Rob Evans and beat ‘keeper Scott Gretton.

The reverse fixture, back in September, had resulted in a 1-1 draw, but any hope of a repeat was soon dashed. After Hey had twice rounded Gretton but failed to find the net, Campion bagged their second goal in the 70th minute when youngster Talent Ndlovu lived up to his name by finding the corner after being slipped through.

Ollerton kept pushing, but to no avail, with Lewis Bingham going closest to a consolation when his dipping effort was saved by Daniel Armitage.
