Clipstone Welfare undone by solitary Pontefract Collieries goal

A Steve Lyon goal late in the first half was enough for Pontefract Collieries to leave the Lido Ground with all three points.

Clipstone started the match much brighter with big striker Will Tomlinson a constant menace for the visitors.

Jimmy Adcock and Tomlinson both had half chances before a Brandon Shaw header from Sam West’s corner skimmed the top of the crossbar.

Lyon scored the only goal of the game after a poor clearance from Clipstone captain Gary Panting saw Jamie Davies beaten at his near post.

The second half was a scrappy affair with Pontefract under the management of ex-Leeds defender Brendan Ormsby seemingly content on harassing the referee over every decision he made which visibly incensed home manager Lee Tryner, who was clearly not happy with the visitors antics.

Clipstone had two late chances to take a point with Tomlinson and Lee Smith both going for the same header and Ricky Shortt shooting wide of the post.

Clipstone: Davies, Edwards, Evans, Issott, Shaw, Panting, Adcock, (Shortt), Tryner, King, Tomlinson, West, (Smith). Subs not used: Jones, Dyson, Owens.
