Alfreton Town ready for relegation ‘six-pointer’ at Kettering
ALFRETON Town are on the road for the second successive game and face another relegation zone six-pointer, this time against Kettering Town.
Nicky Law will be without Anton Brown who will be completing a two-match suspension and Leigh Franks who completes a three-match ban. Late fitness tests will be needed for both Adam Quinn and Greg Young to see if they have overcome calf and hamstring injuries respectively.
Alfreton go into the game on a high having recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time this season thanks to the 1-0 victory at Lincoln City last weekend.
The Poppies picked up a very good point in a goalless draw at play-off chasing Southport on Tuesday evening and buoyed by the confidence from that result, will be eager to kick on and pick up a first home win in three games at Nene Park.
A win for Kettering would not alter their second-to-bottom position in the table, but it would close the gap on the teams immediately above them - and could drag Alfreton back into the relegation dogfight.
A win for Nicky Law’s side, allied to results elsewhere, could open up an eight-point gap on the bottom four clubs and would be a huge step towards securing their place in the division for next season.
The sides shared the points from a 1-1 draw at the Impact Arena way back on October 8 when Anton Brown’s 24th minute goal for Alfreton was cancelled out by a 72nd minute penalty by Adam Cunnington who is now on loan with the Reds.
