New Clipstone FC boss Chris Millington believes the club have the structure in place to become a force in the NCEL.

Millington was appointed as Cobras manager this week and is aiming to establish the side as a team capable of challenging for honours.

Clipstone finished seventh in NCEL Division One last time out with 19 points more than they achieved in the 2012/13 campaign.

And Millington, who captained Dronfield Town for eight seasons, believes he now has the perfect foundations to build upon,

“I was attracted to the club for many reasons, one of them being that Brett Marshall (chairman) and the committee have worked hard to lay down solid foundations that ensure the club’s stability,” he said.

“This in turn has provided the club with an excellent platform to move forward with a long-term sustainable structure both on and off the pitch.

“At this club there is a huge emphasis on putting the players first which is something that is not done enough at this level and is also something that i am looking forward to contributing to.

“From a Personal point of view this is a great opportunity to manage a forward-thinking football club with real non-league values.”

Clipstone chairman Brett Marshall says he is delighted with the appointment and believes Millington is the perfect man to achieve the club’s aims.

He said: “The process of finding the right person was always going to be difficult after a wonderful season on and off the field.

“We did not want to make a knee jerk reaction with the decision on the management position for the football club so a lot of thought about the process was done doing plenty of groundwork to set up a shortlist of candidates.

“When I spoke to Chris Millington we knew after 15 minutes he was the one. Chris was chomping at the bit to be given an opportunity to become a number one and now he has been rewarded with it.

“His enthusiasm was infectious, his drive organisation skills and the most important being a nice guy made it unanimous for myself and the football club.

“As a football club we want to take small realistic steps forward year on year hopefully to become a fixed NCEL league team competing consistently at the right end of the table.”

Millington won the Central Midlands League cup in 2011/2012 season and Central Midlands North league title in the 2012 season as assistant manager at Dronfield Town,
