Mansfield Town youth team midfielder Jack Thomas today signed his first professional contract, aged just 16, the club has proudly announced.
The youngster impressed in the Stags’ youth team last season as well as on loan at Carlton Town, where it is believed a number of Premier League and Championship clubs were monitoring his progress.
Sutton-born, Thomas signed on the dotted line in the presence of his parents Lindsey and Andrew, along with manager Paul Cox and joint youth team manager Richard Cooper.
He then spoke to the club’s official website, mansfieldtown.net, saying: “I’m delighted. It hasn’t sunk in yet, I think that may take a while, but it’s great (to have signed).
“I like to tackle, set goals up and chip in with the odd goal too,” he added.
Manager Paul Cox said: “He has deserved this. For his age, he shows a maturity both on the football field and in life in general. He’s a level-headed lad and I think the kid will have an excellent future.
“He has come on leaps and bounds and I can see the lad playing at a very high level of the game if he continues his current rate of progression,” he added.
