PAUL Cox stayed quietly confident Stags can sneak into the play-offs after Saturday’s 3-0 win at Ebbsfleet made it six games unbeaten.
“That was a great result at a very tough place to play,” said Cox.
“I thought the lads worked really hard again. Credit to Ebbsfleet. They came back out in the second half and threw everything at us. They were excellent and came at us with power and pace.
“We knew they wouldn’t give us another 45 minutes when we could pass the ball like we did in the first half and they really made us defend.
“If we keep playing like this until the end of the season, something has to give with the teams above us. We will concentrate on our own results and, if something happens, then brilliant. If not maybe it will have to be next season.
“Maybe we will have to banish the play-off word as the lads look like they are enjoying their football.”
Matt Green limped off with a shin injury in the second half but Cox stressed it was precautionary and said: “We are having to wrap him in cotton wool at the moment and I am chuffed we have a week off now. He took a bang on an old injury.”
Green added: “I have a shin injury. It is quite inflamed and every time I get a kick on it, it makes me limp. But it’s nothing too serious. I will take it easy now, get some ice on it and should be fine for next week.”
