STAGS boss Paul Cox is warning his players to maintain their Blue Square Premier focus following today’s FA Cup third round draw.
The One Call Stadium side will host five-time European champions Liverpool in one of the biggest matches in the club’s history if they can overcome Lincoln City in the second round replay on 11th December.
But Cox says it is important his players take one game at a time and concentrate on picking up maximum points against Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
“I am not trying to stop the excitement, but we must maintain our focus on the league,” said Cox.
“Results went for us at the weekend with Grimsby, Wrexham and Dartford all failing to win. We have a big game on Saturday against Ebbsfleet that we need to win.
“The Liverpool draw doesn’t change anything, we still need to improve and to improve defensively as the Lincoln game showed.
“The season is at an exciting stage now. The lads have lots to play for, playing against Liverpool could be the biggest game in their careers.
“The lads will be buzzing about the possibility of playing Liverpool, but we cannot take our eyes off the Ebbsfleet game. We need to stay level headed
“I saw what the FA Cup can do for teams when I was at Eastwood, and playing Liverpool could be a massive catalyst for our season.”
Mansfield face Lincoln on 11th December for a home tie against Liverpool to be played on the weekend of 5th and 6th January.
