MANSFIELD Town Manager Paul Cox has strengthened his defence with the addition of ex- Crewe trainee Ritchie Sutton.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a one year contract and joins on a free transfer from Port

Vale, where he made 13 appearances last season.

Sutton, who can play at centre-half or right-back, also has over four years’ experience in non-League with clubs such as Leek Town, Stafford Rangers, Northwich, Halifax and Nantwich.

After signing on the dotted line, Sutton told mansfieldtown.net: “I know that Mansfield are looking to get back into the Football League at the earliest opportunity so that was a big factor in my signing.”

Manager Paul Cox said: “I’ve had my eye on Ritchie since his days at Crewe. He is a big strong ‘unit’ who will hopefully be a good acquisition for the club.

“I believe Micky Adams wanted to offer him a new deal at Port Vale but was unable to due to their embargo problem so I have nipped in there.

“For a big lad, he is very, very quick.”
