The 26-year-old left the club this morning after being told his contract will not be renewed for next term.

Signed by David Holdsworth, Briscoe joined the club on the same day as goalkeeper Alan Marriott in January 2009 and made 199 appearances for the Stags in all competitions, but his appearances this season have been very limited due to injuries.

“I had a meeting with Louis this morning and he is leaving the football club,” said assistant manager Adam Murray.

“Obviously he has been a great servant to the club while he has been here and we wish him all the best for the future.

“I have had some great moments out on the pitch with him, and a few bad ones too, but he is a great player.

“Some of the goals he has scored have been important ones and great ones.

“But this season has been up and down for him. He has struggled with injuries and not been able to stake a claim on a regular basis. But he has had a half-decent career up to now and it is up to him to push on.”
