FORMER Port Vale trainee Matt Bell today put pen to paper on a one year deal with Mansfield Town.
The 19-year-old featured heavily in Vale’s reserve team last season but was unable to break into the first team.
The left back, who began playing for The Valiants’ second side at just 15 years of age, feels he is now ready to make the step up to first team action and said after signing: “I know I am ready to make the step up.
“I was ready before (at Port Vale) but was never given the chance to prove myself. I want to repay the faith Paul Cox has shown in me.”
Manager Paul Cox added: “Matt was very unlucky not to have a good stint in the Vale first team last season. I have been aware of him for quite a while from various reserve matches in which I have seen him play.
“He has a lovely left foot, is tenacious, has high fitness levels and can play at left-back, left-midfield and even in central midfield.”
