Mansfield Town centre half Luke Jones has joined League One Stevenage Borough.
The 26-year-old was a free agent at the end of a highly-impressive season in which his defending and goals in the second half of the season helped the Stags to promotion back into the Football League.
Naturally Jones was offered a deal to stay, but manager Paul Cox said: “The proposition of him playing for a club in League One at the age he is now was too good an opportunity for him to turn down from his perspective.
“We wish him well for the future and thank him for his efforts whilst with us.”
With Exodus Geohaghon also released this week, Stags will now be heavily in the market for centre halves.
Meanwhile, former Stags boss Duncan Russell is back in management in the locality after accepting the manager’s job at Hucknall Town.
