ON top of the FA Cup tie with Liverpool and his 41st birthday this weekend, Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox now has another huge reason to celebrate after announcing he is to be married tomorrow.
Cox and partner Natasha of the last five years, will tie the knot in a ceremony in West Bridgford before a private evening reception in the marquee specially set up for the Liverpool tie at the One Call Stadium.
Cox said the decision to marry actually stemmed from Stags’ cup success and Cox believing her backing of his side was bringing him luck.
He explained: “When I was at Eastwood we played Wrexham away in an early round and I was with Tasha at Meadowhall having some food. She said she could see us winning the game which was hopeful as we were Evo-Stik Premier and they were third in the Conference.
“But we won it and so I bought her a nice outfit. It has just spiralled from there each time as she knows I am a bit superstitious.
“The chairman came up to me after the Lincoln game and said congratulations. I said for winning the game? He said, no on your coming marriage.
“After a few beers, the next morning I woke up and she said to me when are we doing it then?
“It is all a bit surreal still, getting married and playing Liverpool.
“I didn’t want anything flashy. I wanted it all quite low-key. But the chairman had always been brilliant with us and said we could use the marquee at the ground for a reception for friends and family.
“It is also my birthday on Sunday. But I am not one for celebrating them as I’ve got older, especially when you’re past 40. I am just going to enjoy the game.”
