Stags boss Evans not getting carried away ahead of Carlisle test

Under his tenure, Stags have already taken maximum points against Crawley Town and Blackpool, but he said: “There are no mass celebrations in the dressing room over winning two games.

“When we’ve won 20 games we might have a little glass of wine. But we’ll stay focused, go forward and see where we go.

“The only objective and focus now is Carlisle.”

Managed by former Stags boss Keith Curle, the Cumbrians have made a flying start, losing only once all season, and Evans is definitely a Curle fan.

“Keith is a good friend of mine and I have known him a lot of years,” he said.

“I think he has been short-changed at some clubs along the way.

“But he’s gone to Carlisle and he’s done an absolutely wonderful job.

“He has got an excellent squad of players, much like Gary Bowyer’s done at Blackpool. So we are going to go and try to compete with them and that will be tough.

“But we’ll have a game plan and we’ll be focused and will try to go and win the game.

“The players have been told to rest up properly and I am sure their focus is on getting prepared for the weekend.”

Stags’ support at Brunton Park is expected to be boosted by some members of the Evans clan from up the M6 in Glasgow.

Evans said: “It couldn’t be much further, but at least we’ll have more supporters because I think I have some coming from Glasgow. My family tend to come to the games that are in the north.

“It is a difficult place to go. There’s no doubt they have got some terrific players for League Two as their current form demonstrates, wining most games that are coming before them.

“But we will travel up nice and early and we’ll do things a little bit differently.

“We’ll train en route and we’ll make sure that we give the players every opportunity to win a match.”
