Opposition view: Northampton Town will be a different side this time around

Mansfield Town kick-off the new League Two campaign against a Northampton Town side who clung on to their Football League place by the skin of their teeth last season.

The Cobblers looked doomed to relegation until a dramatic upturn in form during the final two months of the campaign, followed by a victory over Oxford United on the last day of the season, pulled them to safety.

But for avid Northampton Town fan Sara Turner, who travels home and away to watch her beloved team, things are looking much brighter this time around.

Here are Sara’s thoughts on how Mansfield Town’s opponents have been shaping up for the new campaign.

The new season is upon us and with a relatively new manager, some new players and the stadium being done up things are so much different compared to last pre-season.

Last pre-season it felt like we were picking the last scrap players up. This pre-season things are different, we’ve got the likes of Marc Richards and John Joe O’Toole from Bristol Rovers in. O’Toole already looks like he’s settled in very well.

It’s also amazing to see Alex Nicholls back after his bad leg break in 2012. I’m hopeful he’ll be given a new contract because if anyone deserves one then it’s certainly him.

As far as predictions come I’m absolutely rubbish at them. I’d like to say a top seven place, but like everyone who follows a club in League Two I know anyone can beat anyone.

I think I’ll wait until Christmas before I predict where we’ll finish.
