THE Stags’ home match with Grimsby Town on Saturday fell victim to a morning pitch inspection.

Heavy rain over the past week, including Saturday morning, left the pitch waterlogged and “unplayable”, according to a club statement.

Mansfield Town’s head Groundsman Michael Merriman said:  “We have had so much rain in recent weeks and have had no let off since the Alfreton game (Wednesday).  The pitch is absolutely soddened.”

The Stags ticket office will remain open today until 1pm for supporters wanting to buy tickets for the New Year’s Day match away at Alfreton Town (1pm).

The game is an all ticket affair and tickets have been priced at £18 adults and £12 concessions (senior citizens and Under 16s).

The postponement is the second in a week for the Stags after last weekend’s match at Hyde also fell victim to the weather.

The Stags will be hoping that the weather relents in time for next Sunday’s big FA Cup tie against Liverpool at The One Call Stadoim.
