JUBILANT Mansfield Town fans say they cannot wait for their mouth-watering FA Cup showdown with seven times winners Liverpool.
Stags set up the money-spinning tie after shooting down David Holdsworth’s Lincoln City 2-1 thanks to Louis Briscoe’s 75th minute winner.
Mansfield will face the 18 time champions of England in front of a worldwide tv audience at One Call Stadium on 6th January.
Speaking moments after the final whistle fan Shaun Henshaw said it was a dream come true for the club.
“It has been a long time since we had a big game,” he said. “It is great for the club to have a game like this and to play a side like Liverpool, I cannot wait.”
Mark Harrison, who sits in the upper tier of the West Stand, said playing Liverpool would give Mansfield solid foundations to build on.
“The money is massive for a club like us,” he said. “It will give us the cash to push on and achieve promotion.
“I have been following the team home and away for years and it is just fantastic for the club. We have had 10 years of doom and gloom since Cardiff so this is great for the club.”
Roger Turner, who remembers the last time Mansfield played Liverpool back in September 1970, said the draw would help push Mansfield into the national spotlight.
He said: “Playing Liverpool will give Mansfield some fantastic exposure, which is great for the club.
“I remember the last time we played Liverpool, it was a great day and the third round match will be another memorable day.”
Mansfield stand to earn £134,000 in tv money alone as well as thousands of pounds generated from gate receipts and commercial opportunities.
