MATT Green rescued Mansfield Town a deserved point with a late equaliser in a thrilling local derby at Lincoln’s Sincil Bank last night, reports John Lomas.
Smarting from Saturday’s home defeat to Southport, Stags were the equal of the managerless Imps, Lindon Merikle hitting the woodwork in a tight first half before the visitors dominated the second half.
However, it all looked in vain when, against the run of play, a mistake from centre half Martin Reilly’s mistake 14 minutes from time gifted a goal to Gavin McCallum and saw Stags staring down the barrel of to back to back defeats for the first time this season.
But thankfully goal machine Green was back on target after three goalless games to earn a point in a game that Stags, roared on by a magnificent army of 981 fans, might easily have taken all three with the chances they had.
