LOUIS Briscoe made up for a first half penalty miss with a second half hat-trick as Stags fought back from 2-0 down to finally beat 10-man bottom side Histon at the Glassworld Stadium last night.
Histon had Erkan Okay sent off after just 13 minus for deliberate handball which gave Stags a penalty kick and an early chance to take a grip against a side who had lost four on the bounce and were 10 points from safety.
Instead, keeper Joe Welch made a superb save, a disappointing Stags failed to find top gear, and the 10 men shocked them with two goals in five minutes at the end of the half.
It looked like a typical ‘After the Lord Mayor’s Show’ display after Saturday’s memorable day at Luton.
But whatever boss Duncan Russell said at the break worked a treat as Stags finally hit that top gear and Briscoe struck three times to take his season’s tally to an impressive 15.
The sparse attendance of 380 was the lowest ever crowd to watch Mansfield Town in a competitive first team match, beating last season’s 422 at Hayes and Yeading.
