Benning turned in an all-action display to win the sponsors’ man of the match award and three times came close to his first goal of the season from the left wing back position.

In the end his 81st minute cross saw Darius Henderson tee up Matt Green for an equaliser in another sub sub display for the club’s star striker.

“We created a lot in the last 30 minutes, and I had a couple of good chances where people might have been in better positions than me, but I had tunnel vision and I should have taken my chances,” admitted Benning.

“There were a couple today where I thought they should have gone in, but the keeper’s made a couple of good saves. Those goals come and go and I am waiting for it still.”

Benning and the rest of the players were given a half-time dressing down by boss Adam Murray for a below-par 45 minutes.

“We all knew the first half wasn’t good enough and the goal was sloppy,” added Benning.

“The gaffer did say he needed people, including myself, to pipe up and get people in position.

“He gave us a good telling off at half-time and I thought we responded right.

“The second half was all us to be honest. We got the goal and Greeny changed the game again, which is brilliant.

“It’s just that next step really – winning the game, seeing it out.”
