Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray wants to add two more players to his squad as they begin their pre-season campaign.

Stags have strengthened well during the close season in a bid to dramatically improve on last season’s lowly 21st placed position.

Star striker Matt Green has returned to the One Call Stadium along with experienced shot-stopper Scott Shearer, Lee Collins, Craig Westcarr, Nicky Hunt and former favourite Chris Beardsley.

But Murray says he is still after a couple more bodies to strengthen his options ahead of the season-opener at home to Carlisle United on 8th August.

“We are happy with where the squad lies at the moment, our recruitment has been detailed and we have put together a group that we are happy with,” said Murray.

“There are a couple more bodies I would like to add that would strengthen us in certain areas. We are in no rush and want to make sure that the players coming in are the right ones.”

Stags returned to pre-season training in Leicestershire on Monday with a variety of team bonding, fitness and tactical training sessions on the agenda.

And Murray added he was happy with the current progress of his new-look squad as he looks to find the winning formula.

“There will be things built into pre-season that are outside the box and things that will encourage people to come out of their comfort zone,” he added.

“From the first minute that the lads walked in, they understood what the targets are for the season. The stall has been set out early doors and, from this point in, it will be a continual grow of information.

“We have a new group of players and there will be a big empahsis on fitness with it being pre-season. This will also be combined with tactical work.

“We are also putting a big emphasis on team bonding, so there is a lot to cover and we are going straight in at the deep end.

“The boys are starting at 7am and finishing at 9.30pm, so it is an intense week that will put people together every minute of every single day.

“This is a thought out process that has been put together by first team staff, We will not overdo or underdo things.

“It is a schedule that will leave us in a healthy position at the end of the week,

“We will see how the next couple of weeks pan out. It is first few days back and the boys are looking good.”

Stags have home friendlies against Premier League Leicester City, Championship side MK Dons as well as fixtures against Carlton, Tamworth, Rainworth, Worksop and Basford.
