Mansfield Town sign Nottingham Forest defender on loan

NOTTINGHAM Forest defender Kieron Freeman joined the Stags on loan - Mansfield Town’s second signing of Friday.

The versatile defender, a product of Forest’s highly-regarded youth academy, made his first team debut for The Reds in a Carling Cup match against Wycombe earlier this season and will be at Field Mill for a month.

Only last week the 19-year-old was called up to Wales’ U21 squad for their upcoming European Championship Qualifier against Armenia.

On Kieron’s move to Field Mill, manager Paul Cox told www.mansfieldtown.net: “I’ve watched Kieron in a number of reserve games for Forest, and he comes highly recommended.

“He is a quality footballer who featured in Forest’s first team during pre-season on quite a few occasions.”

Earlier in the day, Cox acquired the services of ex St Mirren winger Nick Hegarty until Christmas.

If all our players are fit and playing in their respectful positions we would have no trouble against most teams in the BSP. Trouble is life is not like that, and we need to start winning ugly again. I hope we will have too much for Cambridge today, and predict a 2-1 win for us fingers X. Can't wait UP THE STAGS!!!

Promotion and title winning sides do so from the back. Clean sheets are enough to draw a game, with a goal they win you games. We all know that for example points were thrown away at home to Bath and Luton earlier in the season. I think at Braintree too. That said, the modern game is also about retaining the ball,if the opposition doesn't have it then they cannot score goals and if we do have and play the ball into space for our forwards and wingers to take in their strides then we will open up defences, score goals and stretch an opposition trying to get back into the game and score more goals. That's the reverse of what happened on Tuesday at Fleetwood. football is a simple game.

To back up post 2, we've scored just one goal in 8 league games this season, kept one clean sheet in those games & picked up 9 pts..... If we'd managed 8 clean sheets in those games, we'd have another 15 pts & be sat TOP of the table, 6 points clear, with a game in hand.... Or if we'd kept just 4 more clean sheets, we'd be 2nd, a point behind Wrexham, with a game in hand.....All if's & but's though!!!

Today`s game has a draw written all over it. Stags home scoring is averaging 1.4 goals per game with Cambridge being 1.1 goals away from home. We have lost two at home and they have lost 2 away from home. I have been saying all along Del that we are no longer playing the team that was winning and defending clean sheets partly due, of course, to injuries but also by bringing in so-called better players. Team spirit wins games, look at the Cloughie teams and Ipswich when they won the main title for instance. Both teams transformed ordinary players. Must go , got to check the odds on a draw.

Here's hoping Hegarty & Freeman can help plug our Defence & Midfield.... I know PC is very much into stats, so I hope he's looked at our defensive record....... From the start of the season, up to & including the Barrow game, we'd conceded just 8 goals in 9 league games, with 4 clean sheets we picked up 18pts & were sitting 3rd in the table... Since Barrow we've not had a single clean sheet, conceded 13 goals in 8 games, picked up 13pts & sit 8th in the table, albeit with a game in hand....... I'll go back to the old theory, that Brian Clough believed in... Before the team crosses that white line they've already got one point. Hang on to that with a clean sheet, score just ONE goal & there's 3 points in the bag!!!...... Keep a clean sheet & you're GUARANTEED at least one point... Concede just one goal & you're not guaranteed ANYTHING.... A tight game today?
