Just enjoy the play-off chase, says Stags boss
MANSFIELD Town boss Cox today tried to ease the stress and worry of trying to get into the play-offs this season by simply telling players and fans to ‘enjoy it’.
Stags’ 5-2 home win over Darlington on Tuesday leaves them just three points off the play-offs with a game in hand and 14 matches to go, the next two at home.
That represents a fabulous chance of making the annual Wembley jamboree in his first season in charge.
But, ahead of Saturday’s visit of Tamworth (3pm), Cox said: “Once you start getting uptight and thinking too much about it, then it becomes a tough job.
“I want our supporters, the players and everyone at this club to just enjoy it now.
“Anything can happen between now and the end of the season. We won’t go all the way through without losing again and there will be twists and turns. But we have given ourselves a great opportunity.
“We have put a smile back on everyone’s faces. And when the lads are enjoying their football, that is when we are at our best. If we are anxious or uptight then we become a bit erratic.
“Our supporters can make a massive difference like they did on Tuesday. A bad performance or a mistake can create anxiety which, when it sets in, we’ve seen in the past has a detrimental effect on the players.
“If you are fourth from bottom then this business is a horrible place. But we are tucked nicely in the pack and might be successful this season. Let’s just enjoy the whole scenario and see what happens.”
Stags are trying to sort out a centre half on loan in time for the weekend with John Dempster’s loan spell from Crawley ending in midweek.
Paul Edwards plays his final game on loan from Fleetwood at left back, but Stags will speak to Fleetwood and the player on Monday to see if that can be extended.

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10:51 PMDelboy nothing has got past Riley since his mistake at York. Sutton is a very limited defender who defends. Nothing fancy about it. Can't pass the ball he can hoof anywhere will do hoof ball. Sorry, as I like Sutton too.But I hate losing possession, I like controlling it from the back. Sutton does a job, you're right. Let's see how he does with the Giant. To me it's similar complacency that got us beat at Newport. Riley is the better footballer and the manager's job is to get that job out of Riley. Just like it is out of Louis.

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 07:18 PMJJ, I like Riley, but he's too prone to lacks of concentration & usually he's unlucky in that the errors occurring from that usually cost us. Sutton is very much under rated for me. He does EXACTLY what he's there for, with little fuss & simply does his job. Nothing flash, just nice & simple.... Again, it's all about opinions, such as on Radio 103.2 tonight. One fan rang to say Smithy has made us a better side. ..Hmmm. He did quote the game at Barrow, last season, when he came on & scored 2 goals to earn us a draw... I'd be interested to hear of any other game, apart from York last season, where he's "Performed"..... I'm afraid we fans have our `Favourites` & we don't see any wrong in them.... Probably, the BEST way to judge a Player is by assessing if anyone in a HIGHER position would want them... Also very surprised with Coleman tonight. Has he been shamed into being less negative, or did someone slip him a couple of `Happy Tablets"...lol

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 05:49 PMIts going to be very interesting to see what side PC puts out tomorrow. I will wager 442. I cant see him playing 1 up front and no attacking midfield mobility. So Green and Dyer, though he should give Rhead a start, particularly if he's playing the other Giant with the long throw. Briscoe, and Meikle. Murray Roberts, O'Neill, Exodus, Sutton (though I like Riley better), Edwards. Another hat trick for Greenie. With ONeill, Roberts pinging them and Louis' extra quality why not another 5?

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 05:31 PMSo, Pilks is on the BSBP news site, saying Luton will have to settle for a Play-Off place now....... If they are in the Play Off's, he'll be there supporting them...... Errrm, What if it's Luton v Stags at Wembley? Has his love of MTFC diminished now?

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 04:19 PMAs per my comment on the other thread clearly he's signed especially for Ross's continued inclusion in the side to "upset" Vic et al !!

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 04:17 PMLooks like a good addition and a sound contribution from the 12th stag I gotta say!! Looks like the club and JR are certainly doing their bit to make sure we have a chance of the play offs - so come on Stags fans lets do our bit and get some bums on seats - believe it or not this squad of players, management and board deserve a litttle bit more back than they have been getting IMO - Up The stags

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 04:05 PMJJ, it's official.... Boy has he got a long throw, or has he got a long throw. Maybe he should make a small alteration to his Christian name?.... "Exocet"?... Would suit him better...lol
