Boss Cox tells Stags players to lose egos and step up to the mark for Nuneaton trip
PAUL Cox urged his players to lose any ‘egos’, step up to the mark and get their feet back on the ground for tomorrow night’s testing away game at Nuneaton Town.
Boro are bottom of the table but almost pulled off a shock FA Cup win at Luton Town on Saturday to show they will be no pushovers for a Stags side that hasn’t won away in the league since 18th August and failed to beat minnows Slough Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.
“Hopefully we can take our second half performance from Saturday into tomorrow night’s game,” said Cox. “Players have to step up to the mark as there are still 90 points to play for.
“We have had an up and won start to the season. Perhaps we need to lose a bit of the ego and then we can start winning away from home.
“The expectation at this football club has rubbed off on everyone and the sooner it gets its feet back on the ground and players start to realise the league we are in and who we are, we might start winning games consistently.
“Nuneaton were minutes away from winning at Luton on Saturday which tells you the strength of this league from top to bottom. We need to go there and earn the right to bring home a positive result.”
Assistant-manager Adam Murray’s ankle is improving and he could find himself on the bench for the trip to Liberty Way.
