AFC Mansfield started the better and in the second minute Phil Buxton hit the side netting with a 20 yard free kick.
Craig Mitchell had an effort blocked around the half-hour for the home side and AJ Adelekan then denied the striker with a timely tackle.

AFC Mansfield were forced into a change at half time when captain Matt Wilson was replaced by Lynton Karkach with Plummer going to centre half, Smythe slotting in at left back and Cameron Dear moving to the left flank to allow Karkach to take up a right-sided position.
Dear had an early second-half effort easily saved by Jonothan Brown.
Stan Mugisha and Landell began to get more of the ball and caused a few problems for the AFC back line, both firing wide.

Dear headed wide at the other end before a jinking run down the left on the hour mark saw him present the ball to Buxton, whose initial effort was blocked and his follow up was parried by Brown before the ball spun up and back into his arms on the goal-line.
In the last minute Hull’s goalbound header from a corner was tipped away by the diving White.
