Almost 1,000 football mad youngsters flocked to the 2015 Manor Tournament, in what organisers called a big step up from last year’s event.

Manor FC hosted the two-day sporting spectacular last weekend, with over 100 teams from across Nottinghamshire and beyond taking part.

Along with providing hundreds of boys and girls with a safe environment to play some summer football, Manor were aiming to raise cash for some much needed equipment.

While the pennies and pounds are still being counted, club secretary Richard Scott hopes they will have realised their fundraising goal.

But he’s certain every other aspect of the tournament, held at Manor Sport and Recreation Centre and Manor Academy was a success.

“It was brilliant,” he said.

“We had over 100 teams competing over two days, there were no real issues and we’ve had some really, really good feedback from clubs already looking forward to next year’s event.

“I think we had nearly 1,000 children involved, so it was a big, big step up from last year and quite daunting for us-but everything turned out really well.”

Along with keeping hordes of children safe and entertained for two days, Manor FC managed to aid a local charity as well.

Scott said: “We had bouncy castles, raffles and entertainment, and catered the event ourselves, and the spare food went to a homeless charity in Mansfield Woodhouse, so nothing was wasted.”

And there was on-field succes for the hosts as well, with their Under 13s beating Chesterfield Town on penalties in the final.
