Alfreton Town ready for first pre-season test against Barnsley

Alfreton Town play their first home pre-season game of 2012 when npower Championship side Barnsley visit the Impact Arena on Tuesday evening.

It will be a first chance for Reds fans to get a glimpse of the club’s four new signings so far, although Daniel Meadows is not such a new face having had a spell on loan at Alfreton from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

The other new boys are goalkeeper Phil Barnes and midfield players Dan Bradley and Simon Russell.

Reds manager Nicky Law will also be using the game to give match minutes to several trialists who have been involved in pre-season training with the Reds over the past fortnight. The 2012/2013 season is one of special note for The Tykes who are celebrating their 125th anniversary since the club were formed back in 1887.

Last season saw Barnsley finish eight points clear of the relegation places in the npower Championship and, in his second season in charge of the Tykes, manager Keith Hill will be looking for his side to show their true capabilities this time around.Admission
