Alfreton chief targets strong display in FA Cup tie

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law is challenging his side to right the wrongs of last weekend’s home game against Stalybridge Celtic when they travel to face league rivals Hednesford Town in Emirates FA Cup action this Saturday.

The Reds were well in control during the first half but ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat as they lost their way in the second period and Law will be looking for a big reaction in the FA Cup game.

Alfreton beat Hednesford 4-0 in the league at the Impact Arena just a month ago but Law thinks that will just make this weekend’s third qualifying round tie even more difficult.

“It is just another tough draw but also a good opportunity for us to progress” said the Reds’ boss.

“If we can put the wrongs of last Saturday behind us and get things right we can hopefully make a bit of (prize) money for the club.

“But, they (Hednesford) will be wanting to progress as well and, having beaten them earlier on, they will be wanting some sort of retribution from this game so it will be a tough cup tie.

“They will be feeling that they will owe us one, they will have that result in the back of their minds.”

Despite the 4-0 victory, Law doesn’t think his side will be complacent.

He added: “There is no reason why we should be complacent.

“It’s not as if we are top of the league and winning games, we are inconsistent ourselves and that is our downfall at the moment, we have to put things right and I will be looking for us to do just that on Saturday.”
