Sun returns for Mansfield League

Although all local Saturday cricket was washed out last weekend, by Sunday the sun was out again and the Mansfield and District League was able to play.

Anston (178-9) continued to make the pace in the Premier Section with a 72-run victory over Glapwell (106).

In a low-scoring match Welbeck (89) lost to second place Sheffield Collegiate (90-6) with M. Lee (6-16) doing the damage with the ball for the Sheffield team.

Farnsfield (117-3) came out top of the battle of the bottom two against Mansfield Hosiery Mills (113) by seven wickets, Curtis Mitchell top-scoring for Farnsfield with 59 not out.

In Section One, Underwood (106) continue to struggle this season, this week losing out to Welbeck (110-5) with T. Davis (5-13) for Welbeck pick of the bowlers.

In Section Two, Blackwell (115-4) recorded their fourth win in as many weeks as they continue to climb the table, this week beating Handsworth (114) by six wickets.

Teversal (181-6) were involved in a close match with South Wingfield (176-9) but a winning draw for Teversal moves them into second in the table.

In the clash of the top two in Section Three, Parkhead (224-6) came out on top against second place Shireoakes (220) as they won by four wickets. J. Parkin (83 runs and 4-39) along with J. Carrington (87 and 3-43) were both on form for Parkhead.

Whiston PC (191-7) kept up their chances for honours by beating struggling Sherwood (78) by 113 runs.

Mansfield (76) continue to find it tough going in Section Four, this week losing to Belper Meadows (126-8) where C. Whiteley (57 and 3-7) was Belper’s man of the match.

Wirksworth & Middleton(304-6) had a thumping win over Teversal (77) by 227 runs, J. Ritchie (98) just missing his century for Wirksworth.

Papplewick & Linby (184-9), despite only securing a winning draw over Calow (136-7), take the top spot from Alfreton (145-7), who only managed a losing draw with Hollisend (187).

In Section Five only two matches took place, Sheffield Transport (94) beating Ashover (73) by 21 runs in a low-scoring match and Shirebrook (145-8) had a two wickets win over Kingsway Park (144).

Section Six saw Selston (92-1) beat Dronfield Woodhouse (91) by nine wickets.

Wednesday received full points to keep up the pressure in second place as Eckington failed to raise a team.

Another tight match involved Clay Cross (157-4), who beat Kiveton Park (154) by three runs, C. Hiron and J. Crowder sharing nine wickets for Clay Cross.

In Section Seven, Grassmoor (173-4) manage to beat Thoresby Colliery (169-7) by four wickets.

Waleswood (210-9) had an easy win over Sheffield Transport (110) by 100 runs, with J. Cooper taking 4-30 for Waleswood.

Anston Ladies (119-9) also came out top in a close match, beating Nomads (113) by six runs.
