Shock as bottom beat top of table

Bottom of the table Mansfield Hosiery Mills pulled off a shock win over Premier Section leaders Anston in the Mansfield & District Cricket League on Sunday.

Mills made 173-7 before bowling out Anston 13 runs short at 158.

Glapwell (161-6) continued to improve with a 38-run win over Mansfield (123).

However, Farnsfield (198-4) continue to find life hard as, despite a knock of 109* by C. McKenzie, they only managed a losing draw against Hucknall (244-9).

Section One leaders Coal Aston (137) suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Welbeck (138-6), despite B. Pickford scoring 93 for Coal Aston.

Grassmoor (140-6) got the better of third place Eastwood (135) and overtook them with Grassmoor top scorer C. Fletcher dismissed on 49.

Aston Hall (329-3) made the highest total of the day against bottom of the table Underwood (178) with Todd Saxilby (130 not out), and Will Scott (104 not out) enjoying Underwood’s bowling. Josh Freer then took 3-7 with the ball to add to Underwood’s woes.

Frecheville (195-6) just failed by five runs to gain a much-needed win over Cuckney (201).

In Section Two, top of the table Morton (208-7) continue to set the pace with J. Stone (104 not out) and B. Matthews taking 5-37 to help them beat Handsworth (158) by 50 runs.

Marehay (189) had a winning draw over second place Denby (163-8), M. Bailey top-scoring for Marehay with 99.

The bottom two in this section saw South Wingfield (161-4) take a six-wicket win over bottom placed Coal Aston (159-9)

Teversal (203-8) managed to hold onto second spot following a winning draw over Creswell (124-6), Chris Hewitt top-scoring for Teversal with 106 not out.

Shireoaks added an easy 20 points to their tally as Chesterfield Barbarians failed to raise a team in Section Three.

Blidworth (81-1) had a win over Sherwood (80) as they struggle to find a winning formula in this section.

Hollisend (204-7) managed a winning draw over kleague leaders Papplewick & Linby

(156-9) while Parkhead (181-4) continue to set the pace with nine wins, adding Norton Oakes (176-8) to the list of victims.

In Section Four Alfreton (111-8) beat locals South Normanton (98) in a low-scoring match which saw Alfreton take top spot away from Papplewick & Linby (156), who only managed eight points with a losing draw to Hollinsend (204-7).

Byron Abbey (191-5) continue to have their best season for a few years with a convincing win over Kingsway Park (42) in Section Five, L. Christie doing the damage with the ball with 6-9.

Papplewick’s second team (168) had more success against Chesterfield (138), with R. Singh taking 6-21 to keep Papplewick at the top.

In Section Six Selston (204-5) maintained their position as leaders by beating Kiveton Park (201-5) in a close match, despite T. Hallam scoring 101 for Kiveton Park.

Second place Langwith (176-6) only managed a losing draw with Eckington (223-6) but hold onto the position.

Edwinstowe (164) managed a winning draw in Section Seven, but took only 16 points from their match with Anston Ladies (97-7) as Edwinstowe failed to bowl them out.

Thoresby (244-7) continue to set the pace in this section with a win over Sheffield Transport (150) with Nigel Birkett top-scoring with 77 not out for Thoresby.
