NPL round-up: Kimberley go top, Cuckney’s winning draw, rain wrecks programme

On a day when the rains came, it was a triple triumph for Kimberley Institute in the battle for the NCB Premier League title.

They played host to Attenborough, racing to a victory over both their guests and the weather, and claiming top spot in the league into the bargain.

Kimberley won the toss and invited the visitors to bat. Dominic Brown (4-41) and Ben Savage (3-45) causing havoc as Attenborough fell to 88-7, Ben Bhabra’s 43 boosting the Attenborough total to 153.

Kimberley set about the chase, seemingly determined to avoid any weather worries, Alex Aldred striking 11 boundaries, including five sixes, on his way to 77 not out, as victory was wrapped up inside 20 overs.

Only one other match reached a result, as Cuckney took the best of a drawn game with Radcliffe-on-Trent, a result that saw Cuckney rise to fourth.

Batting first, Cuckney totalled 279-8, Luke Thomas and Nick Langford each making 72 with Trent Lawford scoring 54.

David Lucas led the bowling with 4-61, while Usman Muzaffar claimed 3-53.

Radcliffe’s reply closed on 211-6, Ross Carnelly making 74 and Rob Sutton 34 with Ian Parkin grabbing 3-67.

West Indian Cavaliers took sole possession of third after their match at Caythorpe was abandoned. Caleb Mierkaln’s 59, and 79-run partnership with Jim Hindson rescued the hosts from 95-7, allowing them to reach 193 all out.

Mohsin Qayyum took 4-56 and Kafeel Shafique 3-6. Cavs were 105-2 from 25 overs when the game was called off, Akhil Patel having made 55.

Richard Stroh made an unbeaten 86 and Tom Lungley 36 as Welbeck totalled 212-8 at the Nottinghamshire Academy.

In reply, Acads were 132-3 from 35, Jake Libby not out on 56, having added 78 with Tom Moores (41).

Plumtree slipped to second after they were abandoned at Ordsall Bridon.

Having batted first, the Plums made 279-7, thanks largely to a 163 second wicket stand between the Storey brothers, Sam scoring 78 and Ben 87. Asad Ali (4-63) and Aqab Ahmed (3-83) shared the wickets.

Ordsall were 192-8 with eight overs remaining, James Brice top-scoring with 46, Sufian Munir making 42 and Paul van den Heuvel 32, Nathan Rimmington’s 4-42 keeping them in check.

At Clifton Village, the hosts were all out for 234 from their 50 overs, based around a 107 stand for the third wicket between Richard Harrison (62) and Martin Weightman (79).

Liam Delaney was the pick of the bowlers with 6-65, while Jamie Wagstaff took 3-63.

Farnsfield’s reply was curtailed in the 38th over with the score 139-6. Callum McKenzie was not out on 49 and Andrew Bell made 31, Adam Shepherd had 4-31.
