Nottinghamshire continue to dominate Warwickshire as follow-on nears

Nottinghamshire moved closer to being able to enforce the follow on during the third morning of their LV= County Championship match against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge.

They picked up four wickets during the opening session to leave Warwickshire on 209 for eight, with Keith Barker unbeaten on 47 and Chris Wright on nine not out.

The visitors began the day on 100 for four, still 500 runs behind the hosts’ first innings score. Laurie Evans was unbeaten on 39 overnight and was clearly key to any possible rearguard action from his side. He added two singles then appeared fortunate to survive a very confident lbw shout against him.

Undeterred, bowler Jake Ball wasted little time in making amends as Evans got an inside edge back onto his own stumps.

Rikki Clarke fell for just five, to a pre-determined plan. Brendan Taylor was brought into a catching position at short midwicket and the Bears’ all-rounder obliged by chipping Brett Hutton straight to him.

Hutton then struck for the second time, courtesy of a full-length dive by wicketkeeper Chris Read which dismissed Tim Ambrose for 46. The Warwickshire batsman had battled away for two and a half hours, having taken 40 deliveries to get off the mark on the second day.

Jeetan Patel edged Gurney to third slip, to depart for just 12 but some lusty blows from Barker brought a welcome batting point and took him to within three runs of his 50.

With the follow on mark set at 451, Warwickshire have work to do on the third afternoon, if they are to get anywhere near, although a damp end to the day may curtail the final session.
