Hosiery Mills keep pressure on Papplewick

Edwinstowe won the toss and elected to bat, but never made any great challenges to the bowling of Mansfield Hosiery Mills as Edwinstowe accumulated 134 with all 10 wickets lost.

Matt Wright led from the front with 4-19, with Tom Ward the only Edwinstowe batsman to make over 30 and offer real resistance to the Mills bowling with 41 not out.

In reply Mills made short work of Edwinstowe’s 134, as they won by seven wickets with Tom New scoring 56 not out ensuring that they gained full points, while Edwinstowe achieved the solitary bowling point.

But Papplewick & Linby continued their fine form as they returned to winning ways.

They won the toss and invited visitors Worksop to bat first. An inspiring spell of bowling from Jim Rhodes of 6-58 ensured Worksop didn’t get away from the hosts as they could only total 110 all.

In reply Papplewick always looked like winning, making the task even easier with a partnership of 76 between Alex Lloyd, who made 43, and Tom Bowers, who made 39, as Papplewick ensured their lead at the top of the table was furthered, hitting the required runs within 26 overs.

At Park Avenue Notts & Arnold Amateur similarly returned to winning ways as they recorded their third win of the season at Glapwell.

This was started by Notts & Arnold winning the toss and inviting hosts Glapwell to bat first, a decision which looked like to be the wrong one as Glapwell raced to 147-3 with Danny Bircumshaw scoring 44, Luke Smith 43, and Stephen Gooding 42, before Notts &Arnold Amateur restricted the hosts to 215-6 from their allotted 50 overs.

Glapwell had taken maximum bating points and Notts & Arnold took two bowling points with six wickets taken.

In reply, Notts & Arnold struggled to reach the required the runs. But with Dilhan Cooray (92) and Samuel Ecob (42), the requirement to score for victory was made easier as they won by the one wicket. Chris Webber took 5-59.

The match at Sturton Road resulted in a draw with 16 wickets falling and over 450 runs accumulated.

Anston came out on top as they gained a winning draw, totalling 247-7 after being invited to bat by North Wheatley with Leverton. In reply North Wheatley with Leverton were only three runs off Anston’s total as they scored 244-9.

Both Notts & Arnold Amateur’s win and North Wheatley with Leverton’s losing draw meant that Kiveton Park were in need of a positive result against Thoresby Colliery.

This was a match in which started well for Kiveton Park after winning the toss and batting first. They gained the necessary runs to gain full batting points with 203-9. This centred around the batting of Richard Granger, with 56, with supporting roles from James Bullivant, scoring 46, in tandem with Alex Gilbert’s 42.

While Kiveton accumulated these runs Jack Willis took 3-44 as Thoresby took took full bonus points from the fist innings’ bowling.

In response Thoresby once again were part of a match which saw over 400 runs scored as they scored the runs required with little trouble apart from the bowling of Ari Karvelas who took 5-79, while Tebogo Mokwena showed what a good batting track it was, scoring 119 to ensure Thoresby took full points, while Kiveton took six points.

The final match saw two mid-table teams in a match which saw over 300 runs with Clipstone coming out on top.

The visitors Retford won the toss and elected to bat at Seventh Avenue.

Greg Mann and Chandra Kumara scored 40 and 61 respectively as Retford had made 167-8.

The bowling of Najun Nizar Mohamed Faslan, who took 3-49. ensured Retford took two batting points while Clipstone took three bowling points.

In reply Clipstone scored the required runs with the loss of five wickets. Retford gained two more bonus points, taking four, with Clipstone taking 19.

Their batting was centred around a 78-run partnership between Lee Wilson, who made 39, and Ranana Pathum Jayaneththi, who hit 37.

Sunday’s entire Mansfield & District League programme was washed out by the rain.
