Derbyshire enjoy strong morning on day two against Northamptonshire

Mark Footitt led a strong morning session for Derbyshire on day two at Wantage Road as six wickets fell in the session and Northamptonshire struggled to 106 for 7 at lunch, 255 behind.

Footitt bowled an extended opening spell of eight overs. Alex Wakely was set up with two deliveries going across him, he then shouldered arms to an inswinger and lost his off stump for 8. Footitt also had Oli Stone caught and bowled but Stone had done his job as nightwatchman, surviving for over 40 minutes on the second morning, making 19.

It was Tony Palladino who struck first as Steven Peters was bowled by one that nipped back into him. Richard Levi then began strongly and struck two boundaries - through cover and square leg - to end Palladino’s first spell of the morning but just as lunch beckoned, Levi was bowled off an inside edge trying to shoulder arms and the ball before the break, Adam Rossington also went lbw, a second wicket for Ben Cotton having earlier had Rob Keogh caught behind.
