Cuckney miss out, leaders held by Ordsall Bridon, Kimberley’s day to forget

Second-placed Cuckney elected to bat first after winning the toss and a fine early spell of bowling from Martin Weightman (3-33) had the home side in a bit of bother at 97-5.

Then William Butler (86 not out) and Lewis Bramley (56 not out) teamed up to add a further 135 to take the score to 232-5 from 50 overs.

In reply, Clifton Village needed a patient 34 from Richard Harrison to keep them in the match as wickets fell around him.

Peter Vladev added 59, teaming with Daniel Mierkalns to put on 63 for the sixth wicket, Mierkalns finishing unbeaten on 38 as Clifton closed on 188-6.

Leaders Caythorpe travelled to Ordsall Bridon and, despite becoming the first team in five matches not to beat their hosts, managed to extend their lead at the head of the pack.

On winning the toss, the hosts elected to bowl, a decision that may have been different with hindsight.

Martyn Dobson and James Oldham compiled an opening stand of 204, Oldham reaching a maiden PL century before being first to fall, having made 117 from 123 balls.

Dobson followed shortly afterwards for 86, leaving enough time for Caleb Mierklans to smash a 26-ball 51 as Caythorpe compiled 310-6 from the 50 overs.

Bridon’s reply was on track while Sufian Munir (59) and Martyn Long (34) were putting on 111 for the first wicket. ‘Nelson’ would strike, however, as the score quickly became 117-5.

James Brice made 38 of a 51-run stand with Joshua Marsh, who batted 75 balls in his knock which along with Gary Andrews at No.11 secured the draw.

It was a fairly short, one-sided affair at Kimberley’s 2bm Ground where visitors West Indian Cavaliers won the toss and elected to have the hosts bat.

Kimberley Institute have had worse days at the crease, but not many, Alex King (31) the only batter to pass 20 as the home side were skittled for 108 in 37 overs.

Corey Collymore (3-28) and Kafeel Shafique (3-37) did the early damage.

Cavs needed just half of their 50 overs to overhaul the target, Akhil Patel hitting 49 and Adeel Shafique an unbeaten 31, Tom Rowe with all three wickets to fall as Kimberley claimed a solitary point.

Welbeck stayed in the top four after a comfortable six wicket victory at Attenborough.

The visitors won the toss and had their hosts bat first. Only Gurpej Landa with a battling 72 passed 30 as wickets tumbled around him, Richard Stroh, with 4-46, and Jonathan Ball (3-36) dismissing the Squirrels for 179 in the 50th over.

In reply Matthew Higgins’ 46 laid the platform for Richard Stroh (64 not out) to team up with Jonathan Ball once more to add the last 69 runs as Welbeck coasted home with five overs to spare.

At Lady Bay, visitors Farnsfield were put in by the Notts Academy side and also found themselves bundled out for 108, Callum McKenzie’s 38 the lone highlight.

Elliott Bowles certainly did, finishing with figures of 9-1-18-4.

The Academy openers were untroubled in reply, reaching the target in 18.1 overs, Tom Moores not out on 54 and Joe New on 39 as they won by 10 wickets, leaving the bottom side pointless on the day and facing an uphill battle over the remaining two thirds of the season.

Plumtree stayed third in the table after they got the better of a drawn game with Radcliffe-on-Trent. The home team won the toss and elected to bat, losing wickets in pairs either side of a 60-run stand between Joseph Tetley (34) and Hassan Azad, to find themselves 77-4.

Matthew Wood and Graeme White started the recovery, adding 55, before White (56) added a further 57 with the returning Nathan Rimmington.

Rimmington completed a 77-ball 100 in adding 69 with Bobby Gamble to take the score to 301-7 from the 50 overs.

David Lucas led the resistance with 3-74. With only Ross Carnelley (33) seemingly able to hang around, at 96-7 the Radcliffe reply was never in a position to threaten a win.

Only a late flurry from Lucas (39) and Jacob Deavin-Baker (33 not out) added a 52-run stand as the innings closed on 175-8, the bowling honours being shared amongst the five Plumtree bowlers.
