Two winners from the Bolsover District Sports Awards have been shortlisted in the final three for the countywide Derby Telegraph Sports Awards.
Robert Martin and Louise Fox have been invited to the awards night ceremony – which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2015 – next Thursday, November 12, at Derby’s Roundhouse.
Contender in the Volunteer of the Year category, Robert, from Newton, has taught more than 30 courses in his ju-jitsu and kobudo (Japanese martial arts), including at Kirkby-in-Ashfield –and has helped teach the next generation of young coaches.
He was also been the youngest ever recipient of the Bushido Academies International Senior Service Award.
The 21-year-old will vie for the award along with Jo Webster from South Derbyshire and Ian Anderson of Erewash.
Louise, from South Normanton, has made the final three in the Community Award as an active committee member of South Normanton Colts Football Club.
The 40 year-old, who celebrates her birthday next week, has acted as Club Welfare and Respect Officer, Charter Standard Co-ordinator, administrator for the under-10s and under-17s sides, coach for the under-6s mini colts and assisted the club secretaries.
Among her duties have been to putting together player registration packs, devising a coach and manager registration form, compiling the club newsletter, updating the club’s notice board, website and social media, designing a new club logo and helping to set up two new teams, with a third to follow.
Those successful around Derbyshire’s nine districts and boroughs were automatically forwarded as nominees at county level and a shortlist of individuals, teams and clubs were then selected by a panel of sports officials, together with Derby Telegraph sports staff.
Awards will be handed out in 15 categories in all, recognising the cream of sporting talent both in performance-level and participation sport.
