COXMOOR golfer Oliver Wilson got off to the perfect start at the World Match Play with a one hole victory over Sergio Garcia in his first match of the championship.
Wilson, who is ranked 40 in the world, beat Garcia in the group B encounter at the 7,439 yard Finca Cortesin course in Spain after a one under par round of 71.
The pair tied the first five holes before Wilson hit the front with a birdie at the sixth.
The home favourite then levelled the contest with a birdie at the eighth, before a dropped shot from Wilson at the 12th put the Spaniard in control.
But the match swung firmly in Wilson's favour after a Garcia bogey on the 14th and a Wilson birdie on the 15th.
The pair then tied the remaining holes to seal an impressive victory for Wilson.
He will take on Martin Kaymer and Robert Allenby in the remaining group matches.
