Mansfield Triathlon Club's Chris Dale, Sally Hughes and Steve Melhuish all won age group honours at Sunday's David Lloyd Lincoln Sprint Triathlon (400m swim, 24km cycle, 4km run).
Dale took first place in his age group (M15-19), 14th overall, with a time of 1:03:41, following up his age group win at the Mansfield Triathlon and his silver medal in the British National Championships.

Hughes took first place in her age group (F35-39) with a time of 1:13:39, her first age group win of the season.

Sally’s win was one of closest of the day, finishing just seven seconds ahead of age-group runner-up Joanne Bray from Barracuda Triathlon Club.

Dale’s win was also enough to see him secure the Timex Series age-group prize, which has been competed for over four sprint races held at Southwell (May 4th), Mansfield (May 18th), Woodhall Spa (June 15th) and Lincoln (July 20th).

Points were scored for each place achieved in the overall race standings (1000 for the winner, 1 for the person finishing 1000th) and the best three scores were counted for the final standings.

The Timex Series rewards consistency over a period of time and over the different challenges presented by the four different courses.

Steve Melhuish finished second in his age group at Lincoln (M45-49), placing 18th overall, with a time of 1:04:39.

It was this placing of 18th overall that also secured Melhuish the Timex Series prize for the M45-49 age group, bringing home the fourth award for MTC members at the event.

Two members took third place in their respective age groups.

David Presho was racing in the M40-44 age group and finished with a time of 1:11:08 and Sarah Hutchinson was in the F30-34 age group and secured her third place with a time of 1:15:46.

Fifth place in Dale’s age group went to Steven Kerr with a time of 1:12:06.

Also securing top 10 placings in their respective age groups were Lucas Morgan, Paul Hughes, Gareth Castledine and Tony Goodyear.

Morgan was racing in his first ever triathlon and finished seventh in the M20-24 age group with a time of 1:27:10.

Paul Hughes secured eighth place in the M35-39 age group with a time of 1:09:07, and Tony Goodyear took 10th place in the same group with 1:11:25.

Castledine was racing in the M25-29 age group and took ninth with a time of 1:09:42.

Also racing for Mansfield Triathlon Club were Paul Tibble (1:18:10), Michael Bird (1:37:26) and Hugh Barnett (1:37:55).

Tibble, Bird and Barnett were not able to secure top 10 placings in their age groups but Barnett did post an improved time from 2007, finishing 18 minutes faster than the year before.

l Mansfield Triathlon Club’s Sue Day and Deborah Hudson won their age groups at the Little Beaver triathlon held at Belvoir Castle.

The Little Beaver is part of the Beaverfest Triathlon Festival and is raced over the standard distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
