Coxmoor's Ross Overton carded a six million to one hole-in-one shot on the par four 315 yard tenth hole at The Marriott Breadsall Priory Golf and Country Club while playing for Lloyds TSB in Nottingham in the DKM Labour Charity event.
“It was a bit of a shock,” said Ross, “The tenth is 315 yards and I used a three wood to hit the ball over a corner of trees. When I got to the green, we couldn’t find the ball. We had a look round and then we decided to look in the hole and there it was.

“It’s very rare. I have played a lot of golf in my time. When I saw the ball in the hole, I found it quite funny, and then did a little jig before we carried on.”

It’s Ross’s second hole in one – he took his first ace on a par three in a match 17 years ago.

Insurers Worldwide Hole N One Limited, which provides insurance for golf days, which had arranged to pay out for a hole in one on a par three, instead paid out on Ross’s hole in one on a par four.

Emma Chase of the insurers said: “In this case, we paid out on the hole in one – on a par four, it’s extremely rare and believe it to be odds of a six million to one. We decided that Ross’s achievement was so fantastic that we would award him a set of Nike slingshot golf clubs as a prize.”

Ian Knox, director of golf at The Marriot Breadsall Priory Golf and Country Club, said; “This is the first time that we have ever had a hole in one on a par four. It is probably one of the hardest shots to achieve in golf. There were celebrations all round when Ross finished his match. We are all delighted for him.”

The event raised more than £5,000 for children’s charity When You wish Upon a Star.

Mark Rye, DKM’s UK operations manager, said: “DKM’s chosen charity this year is When You Wish Upon a Star which turns the wishes of very special children, suffering from life threatening illnesses, into dreams come true.
