RETIRING Kirkby strength athlete Phil Beniston has just won his seventh world title, when he lifted in the GPC World Powerlifting Championships in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
This was Phil’s last powerlifting competition, as he has announced his retirement from powerlifting after over 22 years of competing in over 40 competitions.

He has won many County, British, European and World titles in Powerlifting, Bench Press and the occasional strongman events, and he has broken 44 British European and World records including 14 World records.

In Leamington Spa he dieted down to the 90Kg class and squatted 315Kg (700lb), setting new British and European records in his class, he benched 205Kg (450lb) again setting new British and European records, he finished with a deadlift of 250Kg (550lb) to finish with a new British and European record total of 770Kg, beating the previous 10 year old European record by over 100 lb.

Phil will now concentrate on running his kickboxing classes.

A 7th Dan black belt, Phil’s next challenge will be a Guinness World record attempt for Martial Arts Endurance.

He will still be competing in bench press competitions including the WPF World Championships in Vienna Austria in a few weeks time and will continue to coach up and coming lifters and Martial Artists, having already coached a World Champion in Martial Arts and a junior World Powerlifting Champion this year.

Phil is sponsored by Mr Ricky Cooke of Level One Security (Kirkby), Mr Nigal Caple of TC Autos (Kirkby), Mr Steve Coltman of Steve Coltman Car Sales (Kirkby), Ms Carol Moorhouse of Bargain Booze (Ollerton), Mr Andrew Morrell of Cobra Martial Arts Association (Manchester), Mrs Sadie Walters of Goldstar Dance Wear (Mansfield) and Mr Sean Harrison of Ocean Fitness (Kirkby).
